The Night of the Burning
by Linda Press Wulf Rayban
TITLE: The Night of the Burning
AUTHOR: Linda Press Wulf
ISBN: 9780747591344
DESCRIPTION: Do you know when you pick up a book, and it is about something you don't really want to know about, but a topic you should know about.
Unfortunately, this book falls under this category, and is rightly so. The topic is the murder of the Jews in Poland, and the escape of two orphans in 1920. The book has even more significance, as the author's husband is the son of one orphan.
This story is very emotional, and I think that it simply has to be read to be appreciated. It describes life in Poland in the 1920s, and the suffering of the Jews. The orphans' parents are killed, and the story describes the escape of these orphans to South Africa, and their new life there.
For those that think this book will be boring, think otherwise. I am not a fan of historical novels, but this is easily the best historical novel, and I would even say the best book this year.
Not recommended to younger readers due to the very upsetting storyline and complicated nature of the book, but a story which must be told, and must be read.
We have to give a big thank you to Egmont and Bloomsbury publishers for supplying us with review copies of the books, which you can see on i-mag book reviews.
