Part 5!
New Story!!!!!
The plane trip was very long, although I slept half of the way as we flew through the night. The other half I was talking to Issy and Frankie: the best people I could be on a trip with. Issy is mad, random, larger than life and, at times, ‘blonde’. Frankie is one of these people who are friendly, kind, fun and have a great sense of humour. And then there’s me, bubbly and up for anything. The perfect team.
We arrived in Brazil at the crack of dawn and the heat hit us like a wave. I was very glad I had my baggy shorts on and a strapped top. Poor Issy had jeans on.
“Right guys, we’re ‘ere. We need to set off now straight away. Got ya’ water bottles?” Leo said apprehensively.
“Yes…” we all said simultaneously.
“Let’s go!”
We all set off down a sand path but the heat was already soaring higher and higher. The journey wasn’t too bad on the sand apart from the dehydration but we entered the jungle the air became humid and our clothes began to stick to us like glue, it also became hard to breathe. We went on for what seemed like an eternity and at times it became hard to keep putting one foot in front of the other. The one thing that kept us going was where we were.The emerald trees towered above us and the faint call of monkeys and the chirp of insects was all around us. In the distance, the sound of a gushing waterfall could be heard, crashing down onto the rocks underneath.
Beads of sweat started to trickle down my face. I glanced ahead of me. There was Leo at the front, large branch in one hand helping him walk and a map in the other. Issy was behind him, puffing and panting to keep up. Before I could look behind me to see Frankie, he was already right beside me. “You alright?” Frankie asked, mopping his brow.
“Yep! How long away is camp, do you reckon?” I managed to reply back.
“Well, look ahead of you.” I looked. There,
cascading in front of me was the waterfall,
camp for tonight.
